You were worried

You were worried to die. You told us “I don’t want to be forgotten.”

You were scared to die. You told us “I don’t want to miss out.”

You cried when you knew you were dying. You told us “Your lives will move on without me.”

“I will miss it all.” You said.

You were wrong though dad. So wrong.

You were worried to die, but you have not been forgotten, not for one day.

You were worried to die, you thought you’d miss out but it’s us who are here missing you.

You cried when you knew you were dying, we are the ones crying now because there is no way for our lives to fully move on without you in it.

You have missed it all, but we have missed you and your entirety.

You would’ve been 69 today. 69. You would’ve laughed and said “good thing mom’s older” (even though she isn’t.

You would’ve wanted us to be low key, you hadn’t the spotlight but loved your family together.

We will celebrate you today. Talk out loud to your spirit.

I feel you with me sometimes, I see you in my children, in the flying hawk.

I hope you know you’re not forgotten, you have been missed, and our lives are much emptier without you in them.
